Saigon Pho 260
With the sky threatening rain the quiet Sunday was in danger of turning downright dreary. So, I made an executive decision, told F. to get out of bed, it was time for soup.
Saigon Pho 260 is where Saigon Palace used to be on Marrickville Road. They renovated in a very Vietnamese fashion, all tiles and laminate, and Saigon Pho 260 opened here a few months ago. I doubt I have ever seen a Vietnamese restaurant in Marrickville packed, there are just so many of them, so when we arrived here just before lunch I was simply pleased to not be the only ones here.
The mood had really lifted and now we were animatedly discussing how much we missed Vietnam, and what we would do on our return (or more like what we would eat). And that return is in sight, just a few more months and we will be on our way to relax in Hanoi, then eateateat in Malaysia and Singapore. After 2 years of not travelling, I am very excited.
F., felt ill but was revitalised by the Beef Pho. I, on the other hand, could barely make a dint in my noodle soup with crispy skinned chicken. Oh, who am I kidding, I ate all the fried chicken in its delicious sauce, but the monster serving of noodles won. My broth was at the same time chickeny with the addition of mince, and fishy from fish sauce and tiny dried prawns, with added chilli and lemon (and maybe some more fish sauce) it was just what I was after, but way too huge for me (and all for $9!).
The room was filling up as we left, kids peering into the fish tank, parents ordering stir fried dishes and spring rolls and lots of pho.
I like this place, and for more than the memories it conjures, the food is pretty good too.
